Federal Department of Justice and Police FDJP

Business succession: The FDJP is working on a revision of succession law, which would make it easier for SME owners to pass on their business from one generation to the next.
The FDJP is responsible for national and international police cooperation and so ensures internal security in Switzerland. It develops legislation in civil, criminal, constitutional and administrative law to reflect the needs of modern society. In addition, the FDJP regulates the conditions under which foreign nationals may enter, live and work in Switzerland, or obtain asylum here.

Member of the Federal Council since 2019.
"To find breakthrough solutions, we must involve others and value their contribution."
Priorities of the FDJP in 2022
The FDJP ensures that businesses and people in Switzerland have a sound legal framework. The FDJP therefore wants to make it easier to transfer the management of a company from one family generation to the next by revising the law on inheritance. The reform should help to provide SMEs with greater stability and secure jobs. Another example is the introduction of electronic legal transactions. A highly secure platform is to be set up so that everyone involved in judicial proceedings can exchange data with the courts, public prosecutors' offices and correctional authorities. The FDJP is responsible here for preparing the legal basis at federal level.
The FDJP also ensures that Switzerland's security authorities have the necessary legal instruments to guarantee the safety of its citizens. For example, the FDJP is currently working on a legal basis that will in future allow law enforcement authorities to extract more information from a DNA trace.
The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), which is part of the FDJP, shapes Swiss migration policy and regulates the application of citizenship and residence rights. It ensures that asylum procedures are carried out swiftly and fairly, that asylum seekers are housed in a humane manner in federal asylum centres, and that those not entitled to stay in Switzerland are removed.
