Federal Department of Justice and Police FDJP
Staff monitor global developments at fedpol headquarters.
The FDJP draws up laws to respond to societal challenges and create equal opportunities. It monitors compliance with the law and so guarantees legal certainty. It regulates the conditions under which foreign nationals may enter Switzerland, live and work here or receive asylum. It also coordinates national and international police cooperation with the aim of safeguarding the security of the entire population.

Priorities of the FDJP in 2026
One of the FDJP’s main priorities is migration policy. Migration takes place between countries, which means that migration policy must be coordinated at international level. The FDJP therefore advocates for a migration policy based on solidarity at international level. The EU Pact on Migration and Asylum is a milestone. The pact aims to make Europe’s migration and asylum system, and thus also that of Switzerland, more efficient and solidarity based. In 2025, Parliament decided that Switzerland would participate, including in the solidarity framework with other Schengen states.
Another of the FDJP’s priorities is Switzerland’s internal security. Here, too, cooperation with various national and international partners is essential. The Federal Office of Police (fedpol), which is part of the FDJP, is the point of contact for police forces in Switzerland and abroad and facilitates coordinated actions to tackle crime. Combating domestic and sexual violence is important to the FDJP, which is why it is pressing ahead with a partial revision of the Victim Support Act. Victims should have access to more support and be even better protected.
In terms of digitalisation, the FDJP is aiming to introduce an electronic means of identification (e-ID) by the end of 2026. In future, users will be able to identify themselves quickly and securely online.
